Removing the Actuators
NOTICE
Do not open the hood from the
front of the vehicle. The hood
or other parts of the vehicle
could be damaged.
After the pedestrian protection
system raises the hood, a gap is
created between the rear of the
hood and the fender.
One accordion shaped stainless
steel bellow actuator should be
visible at each rear corner of the
hood.
Before the hood can be returned
to the normal position, both the
actuators must be removed.
If towing is unavailable, use the
following procedure to remove
the actuators and lower the hood.
1. Turn off the engine and apply
the parking brake.
2. Remove the 13 mm wrench
and the wire cutters from the
storage bag in the trunk.
3. Insert the wrench between the
hood and the raised portion of
the hood hinge.
Remove the bolt that fastens
the raised portion of the hood
hinge to the actuator.
4. With one hand, lift and hold
the rear edge of the hood.
NOTE:
If possible, have someone
help you perform this
procedure.
