CAUTION
Although your vehicle is
equipped with a passenger air
bag deactivation feature which
is designed to turn off the
passenger's air bag under
certain conditions, no system is
fail-safe. No one can guarantee
that an air bag will not deploy
under some unusual circum-
stance, even though the system
is deactivated.
In fact, because the risk to a
rear-facing child is so great if
the air bag deploys, there is a
label on your vehicle’s sun visor
that cautions you never to put a
rear-facing child seat in the
front.
It is therefore recommended
that child restraints be secured
in a rear seat position even if the
front passenger’s air bag is
turned off.
CAUTION
If, however, you secure a
forward-facing child restraint in
the front passenger seat, be
sure to move the front passen-
ger seat as far back as it will go.
CAUTION
Air bags are not designed to
deploy in every crash. In some
crashes, safety belts are your
only restraint.
Air bags are designed to be
used with the safety belts. Even
with an air bag, if you are in a
crash and not wearing a safety
belt, your injuries could be
much worse.
CAUTION
If you are too close to an
inflating air bag, it could
seriously injure you. Safety belts
help keep you in position in
case an air bag inflates in a
collision. The driver should sit as
far back as possible while still
able to maintain control of the
vehicle.
Seat-mounted side impact air
bags are not designed to inflate
in rollovers, or in a rear or
frontal crash.
Roof-mounted air bags are not
designed to inflate in rollovers
or a rear crash.
