41 Preparing the Vivo 45 for Use

4.7 Performing the Pre-use Test
The pre-use test is used for detecting the characteristics of the patient cir-
cuit that is connected to the Vivo 45. The resistance and compliance of
the patient circuit are measured and calculated. This will be used to com-
pensate for pressure drop in the patient circuit and the compliance of the
patient circuit.
The patient shall not be connected during the pre-use test.
The compliance is used for correcting the volume of air delivered to the
patient by subtracting the air retained in the patient circuit during pressur-
ization.
Starting the Pre-use Test Manually

On the Others menu, Select Pre-use Test and then Start Pre-use
Test .

Follow the instructions on the display.
Activating the Pre-use Test Prompt
This activates a prompt to perform a pre-use test every time the Vivo 45
is powered on.

On the Others menu, Select Pre-use Test.

Set P re-use Test to On .
Always perform a new pre-use test if the patient circuit configuration has
been changed.
If the pre-use test has not been performed, the Vivo 45 will operate with
default patient circuit compensation.
