Wideband Threshold (Expert Control)
The wideband threshold for the lookahead final limiter is a static threshold.
This control should normally be set to 0dB. Raising the control will allow more
overshoot and less peak control. Lowering the control will create tighter peak
control at the expense of more audible limiting.
To change the threshold, left click on the knob and use the mouse wheel to
increase or decrease the value.
Filter Frequency (Expert Control)
The filter frequency sets the LPF (Low Pass Filter) for the Bass Enhance
Limiter. It is not the “center” frequency for the bass processing, rather all audio
below the frequency shown is processed by the Bass Enhancer and Limiter.
Normally there should be no need to change this control. However, if you
feel you need in increase or decrease the filter frequency for a different type of
bass response, left click on the knob and use the mouse wheel to increase or
decrease the value. You can also double click on the shown value and type in a
new setting. The range is 40Hz to 400Hz in 10Hz increments.
Filter Style (Expert Control)
The Filter Style control switches in one of three types of low pass filters for
Bass Tools. The style of filter selected can impact the sound of bass.
The BROAD filter shape allows for a very full bass sound. Some bass harmonics
are let out into the “main mix” (frequencies above where the Bass Tools frequency
control is set) and the broad filter has a texture that is reminiscent of bass enhancers
in older digital boxes with the control of a modern limiter/clipper design.
The MEDIUM filter shape is what previous versions of AirAura bass manage
-
ment used and is also found in the VBMS bass enhancement systems found in our
other audio processors. The MEDIUM filter shape gives bass some more “heft” without
letting as much of the bass harmonics out of the enhancer into the main mix.
The TIGHT filter shape keeps virtually all bass harmonics out of the main mix. It is
also the lightest sounding of the three and the bass has a very controlled texture.
To change the filter style, left click on the knob and use the mouse wheel to choose
which style sounds best. In order to hear the change, you will have to left click again to
confirm the change.
Bass Clip Threshold (Expert Control)
Sets the threshold level of the bass clipper in the X1. Lower values increase
bass clipping and produced very controlled bass. At some point, however,
there is a tradeoff between controlled bass and “thin” sounding audio. The
bass limiter threshold should be set by ear using content with a good dose of
bass material.
To change the control, left click on the knob and use the mouse wheel to
increase or decrease the value. You can also double click on the shown value
and type in a new setting. The range is 0dB to -12dB. Suggested settings are
usually -3dB to 0dB.
