iAGC AND COMPRESSOR
The X1 has two sections dedicated to dynamics control – the iAGC and the multiband
leveler/Compressor. Both are linked by DSP algorithms which logically connect and
control them. We call this system “iAGC”.
Navigating the iAGC/Compressor menus is fairly easy. To the left are eight tabs. Each
tab hosts the controls for a specific part of the iAGC/Compressor. The controls under each
tab are split into two categories: BASIC and EXPERT.
The BASIC controls group the adjustors that make the most impact on the sound in
an easy to access location. Most people will not need anything more than the controls in
the BASIC category.
The EXPERT controls are for more subtle adjustments that should only be touched in
unique situations where a specific sonic texture is desired.
It should be noted that the output of the iAGC/Compressor section directly feeds the
multiband limiters of both the HD and FM audio paths. This is the last section of the
processing that is shared between the two paths.
The output of the iAGC/Compressor can also be sent to the INSERT LOOP SEND XLR
jack on the rear of the X1 so that a ratings encoder and associated gear can be inserted
after iAGC and spectral control but before limiting on both the HD and FM audio paths.
This section of the manual will take each tab and describe the adjustors within. The
tabs for Bands 1-5 will be in one section as the controls duplicate for each of those tabs.
