9.0 RAM HOIST OPERATION
CHECK
The 8-inch soundome must travel 28 cm (11 inches) up or
down when operated. See Page 55, #5.
The hoist motor is calibrated at the factory for correct travel
distance, but you should check it after installation. Incorrect
travel distance means your soundome may not be going low
enough into the water to allow the soundbeam full clearance.
Tighten the packing gland only until it slightly weeps
water.
A packing gland that is too tight will create excess friction
on the soundome tube. This friction may cause damage
to the hoist motor or blow the hoist fuse on the hoist
preamp board.
9.1 Hoist Operation Check Procedure
To check hoist travel, follow these steps before returning
your vessel to the water:
9.1.1
Power is off to the hoist system and con-
sole.
9.1.2
Check the position of the soundome be-
neath the boat. The bottom of the soundome should
be 23 cm (9 inches) below the keel.
If the soundome is not extended the proper length,
go back to the hoist.
Loosen the hoist clamp and slide the tube up or
down the necessary distance.
9.1.3
Disconnect the upper hoist limit switch
wire (blue) from Terminal 27 on the hoist board.
Once this is disconnected, the hoist will only move
down when the console is turned on and the hoist
switch is in the down position.
9.1.4
Make sure the wire from Terminal 27 is
not touching any other wire.
