INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
By pressing up or down on the SELECT SWITCH, the
operator can choose 100, 75, 50, or 25 percent of maxi-
mum transmit power. This function is very helpful for
adjusting the sonar to different fi sheries and conditions.
A high transmit power provides the longest scanning
range possible. A low transmit power output is use-
ful at short ranges and/or in shallow water, because it
minimizes refl ections that clutter the screen display.
Power can be selected separately for sonar and bottom
profi le. Select POWER for the mode the soundbeam is
in. The console will place both selections in memory.
As the soundbeam goes from sonar to profi le, POWER
will refl ect your change, magic.
12.3 PULSE
Function 3-
PULSE
BOX highlighted, left of screen.
Press up or down on the SELECT SWITCH to choose
BOOST-100%, 50%, 25%, 12%, 6%, 3%, or 0% of the
pre-programmed pulselength.
At the beginning of each new sweep, the transmitter
transmits over a very brief period of time. That period
of time is called the PULSE LENGTH, and is measured
in milliseconds (1/1000). In actual practice, the short
pulselength gives better resolution, bottom defi nition,
and less noise in shallow water or surface scanning. A
longer pulselength provides greater range.
The computer inside the sonar automatically changes
the transmit pulselength, lengthening it to match longer
ranges, and shortening it for shorter ranges.
Pulselength at 100% is normal sonar setting. However,
you can select
BOOST
for an extra long pulselength
to extend your range capabilities beyond other sonars.
