INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
NOTE: The Model 18 Hydraulic Hoist does not
require the seachest to support the soun-
dome. The soundome tube and soundome
are completely supported by the flange
bearing assembly.
4.0 SEACHEST FLANGE
For metal seachests, the seachest flange must be made
of the same material as the pipe and welded to the
seachest pipe.
See Pages 40-44 for flange dimensions. A flange
is included with WESMAR’s optional fiberglass
seachest.
5.0 SEACHEST POSITION
The seachest must be perpendicular to the water line.
Attach the seachest to the hull with standard
shipyard procedures. Support the seachest with
gussets or stringers to minimize vibration.
The bottom of the seachest must be 1 cm (.5 inches)
above the bottom of the keel.
6.0 FAIRING
This section only applies to seachests that extend
outside the hull.
Build a 1 meter long fairing around the seachest to
reduce turbulence and air bubbles at high speeds.
Turbulence and air bubbles reduce sonar perfor-
mance.
For seachest installations next to the keel, run fair-
ing from the seachest to the keel in front and behind.
SEACHEST ABOVE THE KEEL
Special Note:
The Model 18 Long Stroke Hoist does not
require the seachest to support the soun-
dome during vessel movement. Therefore,
the seachest can be installed flush with the
outside of the hull (See below). Maximum
travel distance of the Model 18 is 1.5 meters
(59 inches). This long extension makes the
flush-mounted seachest possible.
