The Trace Setup dialog is used to adjust the setting used by Vision Pro Scan to create the
outlines around the bitmap image. The Trace Setup icon is the one with the arrow pointing
to it in the picture above. Adjusting these settings to fit the artwork will result in a better
quality trace with fewer control points, allowing for easier cleanup of the traced vectors. The
actual settings that will provide the best results will depend on the style of the artwork and
quality of the scan. You should experiment with the values to see what gives you the best
result.
Vision Pro comes with a collection of trace settings predefined in the software. You can also
modify these and save a new set of values under a different name that can be added to the
list for future use. For most artwork, you can use the “LOGO-Long Lines and Curves” value
that you see in the picture above. The values in the dialog that affect the trace quality are
discussed below:
Tolerance: This value determines how closely the trace line follows the contour of
the original bitmap image. A looser value often will yield a smoother image with fewer
control points (makes editing easier), but will not follow the shape as closely as it would with
a tighter tolerance. Too tight a tolerance will cause the traced vector to follow every rough
edge of the bitmap, making editing very difficult. Your job is to experiment to determine the
value that provides the best compromise between smoothness and accurate shape.
