– Troubleshooting,
The replacement spring is supplied
ready for installation and secured in
a frame.
Removal
Important!
Wear a face shield and protective
gloves.
– Remove the starter cover with
rewind starter,
– Relieve the rewind spring if
necessary and remove the rope
rotor,
:
Take out the screws (arrows).

Carefully take out the rewind
spring with spring housing (1).
Important!
The rewind spring may pop out as it
is removed.

Replace the washer (2) and
remove any remaining pieces of
spring from the starter cover if
necessary.
Installation
– Lubricate the spring with a few
drops of STIHL special lubricant
before installation,
:
Position the spring with spring
housing (1) in the starter cover
(arrows).
If the rewind spring pops out during
installation, fit it in the spring
housing as follows:

– Arrange the spring (1) as shown
in the illustration.
:
Position the anchor loop in the
fixture (arrow) in the spring
housing.

Fit the rewind spring (1) in a
circular fashion, working in
clockwise direction.
:
Hold the inserted loops securely
to prevent them slipping out
again.

:
Align the inner spring loop (1)
with suitable pliers so that it can
clearly be seen through the hole
(arrow) in the spring housing.
– Install the spring with spring
housing, fit the screws and
tighten them down.

– Install the rope rotor,
– Reassemble remaining parts in
reverse order.
