Servicing Drives
The server provides several configurations of available drives, depending on the drive
backplane and supporting PCIe cards in that model.

Twelve 3.5-inch SAS drives
in the front. Two 2.5-inch

Twenty-four 2.5-inch drives
in the front. Four can be
NVMe drives. Two 2.5-inch
SAS drives in the rear.

NVMe drives supported by
the motherboard interface.

Motherboard interface, and
three NVMe switch cards in
PCIe slots x,x,x.
Drives can be removed and installed while the server is running. This feature, referred to as
being
hot-serviceable
, depends on how the drives are configured.
Note -
The server supports traditional, disk-based storage devices and Flash SSDs, which
are diskless storage devices based on solid-state memory. The server also can support NVMe
drives. Either type of drive can be a boot device. The term “drive” is used in a generic sense to
refer to all three types of internal storage devices.
