SEL-221G-5 to SEL-311C Settings Conversion Guide
Set APP = 221G5 in the SEL-311C to configure the relay to closely
approximate the features, performance, and settings of an SEL-221G-5. When
APP = 221G5, the SEL-311C:
1. Configures itself as a compensator distance relay for phase
faults and a ground directional overcurrent relay for ground
faults.
2. Configures contact inputs and contact outputs to emulate those
in an SEL-221G-5.
3. Presents the user only with those settings associated with
SEL-221G-5 type features.
4. Automatically calculates all other settings required to simulate
an SEL-221G-5.
If additional capability is needed (e.g., M
IRRORED
B
ITS
or SEL
OGIC
control
equations), the relay may be returned to the setting APP = 311C to make all of
the SEL-311C settings visible. It is important to remember that changing from
APP = 311C to APP = 221G5 changes settings in the SEL-311C. Changing
from APP = 221G5 to APP = 311C makes more SEL-311C settings visible.
The only settings that are modified are ESV, ELAT, and EDP. These three
settings are set to their maximum value of 16 so that no hidden settings are
modified. If SEL-311C functions are used after setting APP is changed from
221G5 to 311C, do not change setting APP back to 221G5.
As described above, when setting APP = 221G5, the user is presented only
with SEL-311C settings associated with the features found in an SEL-221G-5.
This section explains how to make SEL-311C settings directly from the
settings used in an SEL-221G-5.
There are mainly two kinds of settings in the SEL-311C. Relay settings are
settings for protective elements. SEL
OGIC
settings are Boolean expressions
used to customize the logic of the SEL-311C. To set the SEL-311C to emulate
an SEL-221G-5, follow these four steps:
Step 1. Turn on the SEL-221G-5 application setting by making setting
APP = 221G5. See
Application Settings on page 14.11
.
Step 2. Convert the appropriate SEL-221G-5 settings to SEL-311C
settings using the simple equations shown in
. Be
sure to convert from primary quantities (SEL-221G 5 settings)
to secondary quantities (SEL-311C settings). See
Convert SEL-221G-5 Primary Quantities to SEL-311C
Secondary Quantities on page 14.12
Step 3. For each Mask Logic setting in the SEL-221G-5 shown in
, create an equivalent SEL
OGIC
control equation
using the logical OR of each bit asserted in the mask, as shown
in
.
Step 4. Test the relay to verify intended performance.
The remainder of this section shows how to perform
through
above, and also gives an example of
