phantom sound sources or correlators or both, total volume
indication, dominant sound events, phase relationships and
many others. The dynamic behaviour of all display elements
corresponds to the subjective listening impression, enabling
you to see the balance of your surround programme intuitively
and at a glance.
In 2-Channel Stereo mode, the
SSa
instrument is available in
a reduced version named Stereo Sound Analyzer.
8.3 | The SSa instrument
The
SSa
instrument is always displayed in window 3. To set
the focus on this instrument (indicated by a highlighted frame
around the window), simply press the
inSTR
key. With the
focus on window 3, the SSA functions are displayed in the
Toolbar (window 1).
SSa
is the acronym for Surround Sound Analyzer which is
a powerful tool for visualizing serveral aspects of surround
signals in parallel, e. g. the balance between front and sur-

Moving bar indicator (PSI - Phantom Source
Indicator) shows position and width of the
phantom sound source between the L and LS
channels
Total Program Volume (TVI - Total Volume
Indicator). The aera enclosed by the lines is a
measure for the total volume level, the sprea-
ding across the four quadrants is an image
of the balance of the sound characteristics.
The correlation level
r
is shown by the shape
of the lines (and additional by the color of
the PSIs):
• a distinctive roof:
r
from +1 to +0.25 (PSI: green),
• a straight line:
r
from +0.25 to –0.25 (PSI: yellow),
• a funnel:
r
from –0.25 to –1 (PSI: red).

Scaled coordinate system for the sound pres-
sure level with marker (red) for the reference
monitoring sound pressure level selected in the
program meter section and to which the studio
monitoring system can be calibrated.
Correlation meter can be displayed next to
or instead of the PSIs
Center channel level indicator (yellow line)
• In 6.1 mode an additional speaker symbol is displayed in the middle at the bottom.
• Im 7.1 mode two additional speaker symbols are displayed to the left and right of the C symbol at the top. Their levels are mixed with those of the center chan

nel – there is only one combined center indicator. The selected channel functions are displayed for all speakers as described above.
• In 2-Channel Stereo mode the SSA looks slightly different. Only L/R loudspeakers, bars and their total volume (triangle) are displayed.
