state. However, files stored in the HDD will be erased. In addition, it takes time to re-install. Check if
re-installation is absolutely required before starting the job.
Notes on re-installation:
Where possible make a backup of data prior to re-installing Windows XP.
Re-installing Windows will erase all of the data you have created.
Write down the settings of ShieldPRO before starting re-installation.
Re-installation returns all settings including network settings to the Windows defaults.
To use ShieldPRO with the same settings as the current ones after re-installation, record the current
settings of ShieldPRO before starting re-installation.
Remove peripheral devices purchased separately from ShieldPRO (except USB CD Drive).
Carry out re-installation with only the devices connected to ShieldPRO that were the ones shipped with
it. Peripheral devices purchased separately should not be connected to ShieldPRO during re-installation.
If a supervisor password is set, cancel the supervisor password or change the BIOS SETUP as follows:
Select [Security]
[Password on boot]
[Disabled]. For the supervisor password, see "6.4.1 Security".
Do not suspend during re-installation.
After starting re-installation, be sure to complete it according to the procedure described in this guide. If
suspended, restart the re-installation from the beginning.
Install applications purchased separately after completion of re-installation.
All applications purchased separately are also erased by re-installation. Install them after re-installation
is completed.
Following the re-installation of Windows, it is necessary to reload the drivers from the Drivers CD.

Re-installing Windows Procedure
The Windows XP CD shipped with ShieldPRO can be used to restore the operating system to
Windows defaults.
(1) Tools to be prepared
The following tools are required for re-installation from CD-ROM:
Windows XP Installation CD
A CD-R/RW drive with USB interface
(2) Check items before re-installation
Connect the CD Drive to the ShieldPRO and ensure it is detected. Insert the Windows XP CD in the
drive prior to rebooting ShieldPRO.
Record the Product key from the Windows label on the bottom of the ShieldPRO unit.
Clear the BIOS supervisor and user passwords in the security menu. See “6.4.1.3 Set supervisor
password”.
