7.3.2.
Repairing system to [Last Known Good Configuration]
If you cannot start Windows XP after a system change, the problem may be solved by using the
Last Known Good Configuration.
The configuration changes made after the last normal starting are all discarded.
If the system is started normally more than once after configuration change, the configuration
before the change cannot be recovered.
To use the Last Known Good Configuration, follow the procedure below:
1. Power on the computer.
2. While the computer is booting, repeatedly tap
F8
button to display the [Windows Advanced
Options Menu].
3. At the [Windows Advanced Options Menu], select [Last Known Good Configuration] and
press
Enter
.
4. On the operating system selection menu ensure [Microsoft Windows XP Professional] is
selected and press
Enter
.
5. The [Hardware Profile/Configuration Recovery Menu] dialog box appears.
6. Any of the following options can be selected on the menu.
Hardware profile selection used at startup of this device
Switch configuration at previous normal startup
Reboot this device
System repair
7. To restart Windows XP with the configuration before occurrence of the problem, press
L
.
Then press
Enter
.
8. Windows XP is started by using the configuration at the last normal starting.
7.3.3.
Repairing system by using [System Restore]
If Windows XP needs to be restored to a previously saved system restore point, use [System
Restore] to repair the System. Windows must be able to be loaded to use this function.
System Restore allows ShieldPRO to be recovered to the previous state without discarding
personal data files.
To start [Restore System], click [Start]
[All Programs]
[Accessories]
[System Tools]
[System Restore]. Follow the instructions on each of the screens to restore the system to a saved
Restore point.
