Step 3. Slide the top cover to the rear until it is disengaged from the chassis. Then, lift the top cover off the
chassis and place the top cover on a flat clean surface.
Attention:
• Handle the top cover carefully. Dropping the top cover with the cover latch open might damage the cover
latch.
• For proper cooling and airflow, replace the top cover before you power on the server.

Before installing the top cover:
1. Ensure that all cables, adapters, and other components are installed and seated correctly and that you
have not left loose tools or parts inside the server.
2. Ensure that all internal cables are correctly routed. See “Internal cable routing” on page 31.
3. If you are installing a new top cover, attach the service label to the new top cover first if necessary.
Note:
A new top cover comes without a service label attached. If you need a service label, order it
together with the new top cover. The service label is free of charge.
