20 Checking cables, plugs and sensors
20.1 General
All cables, plugs and sensors can be checked for defects
such as broken cables using a continuity check. This test is
carried out using a Multimeter. The way in which the correct
continuity is indicated (i.e. beep tone) is dependent on the
Multimeter type or on the different settings used.
Note
:
Information on using the Multimeter can be taken
from the relevant user's manual.
20.2 Test
procedure
20.2.1 Checking plugs and cables
•
Set the Multimeter to continuity test.
•
Loosen all plug connections from the cable to be
checked.
•
Connect one Multimeter test cable to an input plug
contact and the other cable to the corresponding
contact of the output plug.
Note
:
Input and output plug can be determined freely.
However, they should not be changed during
measuring.
•
Measure the continuity on the contacts of the cable
input and output plugs.
•
In this way, test all connections for short circuit or
parted cables.
