Among the components of the communication controller, multiple adapters allow the
MOSS to monitor the status of the CCU, control DMA, and IOC bus, and to enable
and disable channel adapters.
A power control adapter with a dedicated microprocessor monitors 3745 power.
A file adapter provides MOSS storage control. A 72MB hard disk, in addition to a
1.2MB diskette, provides extensive capacity for file and data storage.
The MOSS interfaces to the control panel indicators and switches. These provide
an alternative method for controlling the primary power subsystem, activating
MOSS functions, and for operator notification.
On 3745 Model 1x0 a console adapter allows 3745 to be controlled from a local
console located within 7 m (23 ft), or an alternate console located within 120 m
(400 ft), or a remote console connected via a 1200 bps DCE to the controller. Only
one console may be active at a time. If the remote support facility is used, it allows
communication between the MOSS and the IBM RETAIN system, providing remote
service facility (RSF). The RETAIN terminal can be used as an operator console
as well as for transferring microcode patches to the MOSS if required. Refer to
“3745 Models 130, 150, 160, and 170 Operator Consoles” on page 1-17.
The 3745 Model 17A uses a LAN attached console (service processor). Refer to
“3745 Model 17A Console Summary” on page 1-18.
3746 Model 900 Connectivity Switch
The 3746-900 is a frame connected to the 3745 Model 17A.
The 3746-900 provides new adapters to the 3745 to attach:
Enterprise Systems Connection (ESCON*) channel
TIC3 couplers (4 or 16 MBps).
LIC type 11 (up to 256 kbps)
LIC type 12 (up to 2 Mbps)
A new MOSS hardware and microcode for connection to the service processor, via
the LAN, is installed on the 3745 Model 17A. The service processor (PS/2 based)
is used as 3745 MOSS console.
For more details on the 3746-900, refer to the soft copy manual:
