TSG 004 Using The VGA Service Monitor
Section 1: Introduction
This job card explains using the VGA service monitor to troubleshoot video driver problems.
It is useful when debugging boot problems or performing any low level diagnostics on portrait
monitor systems where the Video Drivers have not started. By connecting the VGA monitor to the
provided port on the CPU all video display will be directed to the VGA monitor.
However, when Windows NT has booted far enough (usually at the blue screen) the hi-res video
drivers (if installed) will be enabled and video will be directed to the portrait monitors. In the event of
display problems on the portrait monitors, video can be directed to the VGA display at Windows NT
boot by selecting the boot VGA mode from the boot menu.
Section 2: Procedure
Connect the VGA monitor cable to the 15 pin on-board VGA port (video connector) located on the
back of the CPU.
Caution
!
If booted into Windows via VGA mode caution should be used if
adjusting video settings not to leave them permanently set in VGA
mode.
