Introduction
33
If more than just the sample and drain tubing are to be run, then use the following
configuration:
1st (closest to the instrument) -- Drain tubing.
2nd -- Internal standard or diluent tubing.
3rd -- Sample tubing.
7.
After all tubing has been fitted, close the pump tubing pressure bars.
NOTE
For the sample introduction system to perform correctly, the pressure bars must be
correctly adjusted.
8.
Place the sample capillary into a beaker of de-ionized water and hold the other end
over a waste container.
9.
Turn the peristaltic pump on (F11).
10.
Introduce a bubble into the tubing by removing the tubing from solution
temporarily.
11.
Turn the pressure screw counterclockwise until the de-ionized water stops flowing
in the tubing. The fluid in the tubing may actually begin to recede at this point.
12.
Turn the pressure screw clockwise until the solution flows through the tubing
smoothly. Following this, turn clockwise one-half turn.
13.
Reconnect the nebulizer capillary to the pump tubing.
NOTE
Repeat steps 9 through 13 for the remaining tubing.
4.5.7
Removing the Peristaltic Pump Assembly
1.
Vent the vacuum system, and turn the instrument off.
2.
Remove the peristaltic pump tubing as per section 4.5.6, page 32.
3.
Remove the four screws, which hold the pump head to the instrument frame
4.
Lift the pump assembly away (carefully maneuver the assembly to not damage the
peristaltic pump PCB).
5.
Disconnect the peristaltic pump loom.
