Introduction
The ICP-MS system requires regular maintenance to ensure continued optimum
performance throughout its operating life. The operators perform routine
maintenance tasks daily and weekly. In addition, once a year a field service engineer
should visit the site and complete a comprehensive preventative maintenance visit.
This Service Manual provides all the necessary information and systematic instructions
for you to complete the annual preventative maintenance tasks for the ICP-MS.
The entire preventative maintenance visit takes approximately 8-16 hours.
2.1
Audience
Analytik Jena requires that an Analytik Jena trained, qualified or authorized field
service engineer service the ICP-MS. The instructions in this Manual are provided
specifically for field service engineers and authorized personnel who have successfully
completed the Analytik Jena ICP-MS service training course.
WARNING
Any preventative maintenance attempted by unauthorized personnel will
immediately void the warranty. Unskilled, improper, or careless maintenance can
create the risk of fire, electric shock and various other hazards that can cause death
or serious injury to personnel.
2.2
Before You Begin
Before you complete the preventative maintenance on the ICP-MS, you must make
sure that the safety requirements for the maintenance are understood and met.
2.2.1
Safety Requirements
Please carefully read the Safety Practices and Hazards chapter before you begin either
routine or preventative maintenance on the ICP-MS. This section contains important
information that can protect you from serious injury as you interact with the
instrument and its components and can prevent damage to the instrument.
In addition, pay particular attention to the following warnings and safety practices:
Before anyone performs any mains wiring on the laboratory or any part of the mass
spectrometer system they must have read and understood the local power
connections and insulation color codes. Color coding standards may vary between
country of origin or installation and the application.
