Preventative Maintenance Overview
The following table outlines the recommended preventative maintenance procedure
and provides references to details for each step. You can use this as a checklist to
systematically guide you through a preventative maintenance routine.

13-410-540 Cooling Water Additive
Initial Performance Tests
Print out Plasma Align (Time Scan mode) and Vacuum gate valve open and closed pages
from the instrument setup
Verify performance (sensitivity/oxides/doubly charges).
Vacuum System
Drain and replace oil in rotary pump.
Clean exterior of pump.
Test vacuum interlock by attempting to start vacuum with Turbo 1 dismounted. Verify that
appropriate error message is displayed.
Mass Spectrometer System
Check/adjust gate valve.
Clean sampler/skimmer cones.
Clean extraction lens #1 and #2.
Clean entrance lens and entrance plate.

Sample Introduction System
Inspect/clean torch
Inspect/replace torch gas tubing.
Inspect/adjust RF coils
Turn on the peristaltic pump (15 rpm) and nebulizer gas flow (1.0 L/min) and aspirate de-
ionized water. Check that the aerosol produced by the nebulizer is normal and uniform.
Check/clean spray chamber and replace all O-rings.
Inspect sample introduction system electrical connections.
