The unit can be opened only if it is unloaded. (Fig. 6a/b)
The correct feed direction of the rope corresponds to the
pictorials on the device and must be checked before
every use. (see Fig. 6c)
Then close the OHM. (see Fig. 6d) Ensure that both the
unit and the snap lock are closed completely. (see Fig.
6e) Be absolutely sure to avoid falling into an open OHM.
(see Fig. 6f/g)
Installation at the first protection point:
Edelrid recommends following any of the three following
variants when fastening the OHM to the first protection
point.
a) Fig. 7: The first protection point is a rock anchor:
Before starting to climb, insert the rope and fit the OHM
with the prescribed express sling, attach it to the har-
ness. Upon reaching the first protection point, attach the
express sling to the anchor.
Attention: Be sure the rope runs straight: The climbing
rope must run out at the front of the OHM (see Fig. 7 a-c)
b)
Fig. 8: The first protection point is a fixed express
sling with screwed joint:
Before starting to climb, insert the rope and fit the OHM
with the prescribed express sling, attach it to the har-
ness. Upon reaching the first protection point, attach the
express sling to the screwed joint of the fixed express
sling. Attention: Be sure the rope runs straight: The clim-
bing rope must run out at the front of the OHM
c) Fig. 9: The OHM has been pre-installed at the first
protection point:
A pre-installed OHM can be opened likewise by acti-
vating the snap lock and turning, then attach the rope
from the climbing position.
Attention: Be sure the rope runs correctly through the
OHM.
Inadmissible use of the OHM
Fig. 10:
Attention: Do not attach karabiners or other
non-textile elements to the OHM!
Fig. 11:
Attention: Never feed a rope or other textile ele-
ments through the karabiner eye on the unit!
Attention: The OHM only increases the friction in the
system and does not replace belaying by a partner.

Functional and safety check-up
It is the responsibility of the user to check the proper
function of the combination of belay device – belaying
karabiner – climbing rope(s) and the OHM as well as to
check the weight difference between persons in the rope
team before using the device; do so in a safe location
(near the ground / at jump height). The properties differ
slightly with some of the applications described (e.g. the
actual brake action); this is due to different rope diame-
ters and surfaces.
Before and after use, check the product for signs of da-
mage (e. g. deformation, fissures and corrosion); ensure
that it is safe to use. Immediately remove the product
from use, if there is even the slightest doubt concerning
its safe condition.
Before any belaying or abseiling job, be sure to check
that the rope has been inserted correctly and that the
unit is functioning properly.
Smooth ropes, moisture or icing may negatively influ-
ence the braking action of the unit.
GENERAL NOTES CONCERNING SAFETY, SERVICE
LIFE, STORAGE, MAINTENANCE AND IDENTIFICATION
Safety notes
If this product is combined with other equipment parts,
these may mutually impair operating safety.
The product must be used only in connection with CE-
marked components of personal protective equipment
(PPA) for falling from a height.
If original components of the product are modified or re-
moved, the safety properties may be influenced adverse-
ly. The equipment should not be modified in any way, e. g.
for attachment of additional components, unless this has
been expressly approved by the manufacturer in writing.
Attention! The products must not be subjected to dama-
ging influences. These include contact with corrosive or
aggressive substances (e. g.: acids, lye, soldering fluid,
oils, cleaning agents) as well as extreme temperatures
and flying sparks. Sharp edges, moisture and icing parti-
cularly may substantially impair the tensile strength of
textile products!
