Troubleshooting Tips When Using Your Built-in Modems
A-12 Problem Solving
Modem throughput is slower
than expected.
If you are calling another Microcom V.34
modem and cannot connect at 33400 bps,
lower your modem-port speed using the
%Bn command. If your connection
succeeds, the problem is the quality of your
phone lines.
If your file transfer rate is slow, experiment
with the %Cn command for different forms
of data compression. Certain types of files are
already compressed and can cause delays as
the modem tries to compress them again.
Experiment with \Nn for different forms of
error correction. Be careful, you may
sacrifice data integrity if you turn off error
correction.
