Attention code
The AT characters tell the modem that a
command follows.
Auto-answer mode
The state in which the modem automatically
answers the telephone when it rings.
Auto-reliable mode
The mode in which the modem can answer
calls and establish an asynchronous connection
both with modems that support MNP or LAPM
error correction and with modems that do not
support error correction.
Automatic speed matching
The ability of the modem to automatically
adjust its modem port speed to the speed of the
remote modem.
Bell 103
Bell 103 protocol is for 300 bps full-duplex
connections. Bell 103 is not supported for
synchronous connections; digital (loop 1A)
and analog (V.54 loop 3) loopbacks; LAPM
connections.
Bell 212A
Bell 212A protocol is for 1200 bps full-duplex
connections.
Bps rate
The rate at which information is sent. A unit of
measure equal to the number of bits
transmitted or received per second. Sometimes
referred to as speed or communications rate.
Bps rate adjust
The ability of the modem to automatically
adjust its serial port speed to match the
connection speed.
Caller Number Delivery (CND)
A service available from telephone companies
in some parts of the USA and other countries.
With this service, the telephone company
sends information (such as the telephone
number) about the calling party with the RING
signal to the party being called.
Caller ID (CID)

Carrier
The frequency exchanged by modems used to
transmit and receive data.
