IN S TA LLIN G CHARGING STA TIO N TO CHECK
SYSTEM OPERATION
1. The low pressure fitting is located on the connector
block (com pressor inlet line) and the high pressure fitting
on the m uffler (Fig. 24).
2. Install Gauge A dapters J-5420 and J-9459 o n to the high
and low pressure gauge lines o f the Charging S tation.
3. With the engine sto p p ed , rem ove the caps from the cored
valve gauge fittings.
4. Be certain all valves on Charging S tatio n are closed.
5. C onnect high pressure gauge line to high pressure gauge
fitting.
6. See Figure 21. T u rn high pressure co n tro l (2) one tu rn
counterclockw ise (o p en ). Crack open low pressure co n
trol (1) and allow refrigerant gas to hiss from low
pressure gauge line for th ree seconds, then connect low
pressure gauge line to low pressure gauge fitting.
7. S ystem is now ready for purging or perform ance testing.
PURGING THE SYSTEM
In replacing any o f the air conditioning com ponents the
system m ust be com pletely purged or drained o f refrigerant.
The purpose is to low er the pressure inside the system so th a t
a com p o n en t p art can be safely rem oved.
1. With engine sto p p ed , install high and low pressure lines
o f Charging S tatio n gauge set to the p ro p er high and low
pressure gauge fittings. (See “ Installing Charging S tation
to Check S ystem O p eratio n .”)
C A U T IO N :
Before installing lines, be sure th a t all
fo u r controls on the gauge set are closed.
2. D isconnect vacuum line a t Charging S tatio n vacuum
pum p and p u t th e line in a covered can as shown in
Figure 25.
N O T E : An em pty 3 lb. coffee can w ith a plastic
cover which has been cross-slit (X ed ), to allow hose
en try , works well fo r this purpose.
3. F ully open high (2) and low (1) pressure control valves,
and allow refrigerant to purge from system at a rapid rate
into the covered can.
4. Oil loss will be m inim al. It m ay be added to th e system
during evacuation as described later.
5. Tow ard th e end o f the purge stage, T ool J-24095 should
be flushed w ith refrigerant to elim inate possible c o n
tam ination.
a.
D isconnect refrigerant line a t supply tank.
b.
Flush T ool J-24095 by cracking open valve on
refrigerant ta n k . A fter, flushing for approxim ately
three seconds, close valve.
c.
T em porarily refasten th e tool.
d.
R econnect refrigerant line to supply tank.
