GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Chevy V an and S portvan are 10, 20 and 30 series
m odels. The fro n t end sheet m etal design does n o t include the
rad iato r su p p o rt and fenders as loose item s inasm uch th at
these item s are w elded to g eth er as an integral p art o f th e body.
F ro n t end sheet m etal includes th e h o o d assembly, hood
hinges, h o o d lock catch and su p p o rt, a h o o d rod assembly
w hich supports the h ood, a w elded in radiator-upper tie bar,
and series designation plates and hoods em blem s. R efer to
figure 7 for sheet m etal checking.
Figure 1 illustrates front en d sheet m etal com ponents.
Refer to S ection 13 for R adiator and Grille service p ro ­
cedures, S ection 14 for Bum pers, and Section 1A for H eater.

MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENTS
HOOD ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENT
The alignm ent o f th e h o o d is controlled b y the position o f
the hood hinges and the height o f the tw o bum pers located
one at each side of th e rad iato r support. The adjustm ent at the
h o o d lock m ust be m ade after th e hinges and bum pers are
properly adjusted (refer to H ood L ock A djustm ent fig.

align the h o o d and lock proceed as follows:
Hood Hinges (Fig. 2)
N O T E : The body m ounted portion o f the hood
hinges are slotted to provide up and down move­
ment. The hood mounted end is slotted to provide
forw ard and rearward movement.

. Scribe a line around th e entire hinge plate to be re­
positioned.
2. Loosen the appropriate screws and shift the position o f
the h o o d in to correct alignm ent using th e scribe m arks to
check am o u n t o f m ovem ent. Check alignm ent by tight­
ening screws and closing the hood.
Hood Bumpers (Fig. 3)
A djust h o o d bum pers so th a t h o o d top surface is flush w ith
the fender and grille to p surfaces. R efer to Figure 7 for correct
sheet m etal adjustm ent dimensions.
Hood Lock Assembly
A bolt-type h o o d lock is used as show n in Figure 4. The
lock b o lt, located on the h o o d dovetails w ith the m ounted
