Installation
1. Make sure new sw itch is clean and free o f lint. I f any
d o u b t exists, w ash th e sw itch in d en atu red alcohol or
brake fluid and allow to dry.
2. Place new sw itch in positio n an d secure w ith screws.

3. C onnect hydraulic lines to valve.

4. C onnect sw itch electrical lead.
5. Bleed the brake system .
Brake Warning Light Checking
1. S et parking brake an d tu rn the ignition key to “ O N .”
2. W arning lam p should light.
3. I f lam p does n o t light: bulb is b u rn ed o u t or electrical
circuit is defective.
4. T u rn ignition key off.
5. Replace bulb or repair circuit as necessary.
Testing Warning Switch
1. Raise vehicle on a hoist an d attac h a bleeder hose to a
rear brake bleed screw and imm erse the o ther end o f hose
in a container partially filled w ith clean brake fluid. Be
sure m aster cylinder reservoirs are full.
N O T E : When bleeding the brakes; the pin in the
end o f the metering portion o f the com bination
valve must be held in the open position (not allowed
to close). This can be accomplished by installing
Tool J-2 3 7 0 9 under the m ounting b olt and de
pressing the pin a slight am ount. Be sure to re
torque the m ounting b o lt after removing Tool
J -2 3 7 0 9 (Fig. 6).

section.
2. T urn ignition key “ O N .” O pen bleed screw while helper
applies heavy pressure to brake pedal. Warning lam p
should light. Close bleed screw before helper releases
pedal.
N O T E : To "reset" switch, apply heavy pedal
force. This force will apply hydraulic pressure which
re-centers the switch contact.
3. A tta ch bleeder hose to fro n t brake bleed screw and
repeat step

4. T urn ignition key off. See N ote u nder step 2.
5. L ow er vehicle to floor.
N O T E : I f warning lam p does not light during Steps
2 and 3, but does light when the parking brake is
set, warning light switch is defective. Do not
attem p t to repair switch. A defective switch must be
replaced w ith a new com bination valve assembly.
C A U T IO N :
Caution should be taken to prevent air
fro m entering system during checks on switch.
The recom m ended checking interval should be 24 m onths,
any tim e m ajor brake w ork is done or any tim e a custom er
com plains o f excessive pedal travel.

Removal
1. Rem ove push rod clevis pin.
2. Rem ove clutch lever from right side, if m anual tran s
m ission, or retainer from right side if autom atic
transm ission.
