Problem
:
Tape Does Not Stick To Case Surface.
•
Ensure that the product provides support under the flaps (i.e. Underfilled case).
•
Ensure that the wipe-down rollers are contacting the case and that the spring tension is correct.
•
If the outside (major) flaps are allowed to overlap, the “step” created results in an uneven taping
surface, causing poor initial tape adhesion. This can release during shipping and handling. See
comments on overlapped major flaps in the section called ‘Top Flap Folding’ in Troubleshooting
Guide.
•
Check the operating environment.
•
Presence of large amounts of dust or dirt gathering on the cases or in the air will impair adhesive
effectiveness.
•
Temperature: extremes of hot or cold temperature may require tapes with appropriate adhesive
formulations for good initial and permanent sealing performance.
•
Inspect the presence and quality of the adhesive on the tape.
Problem
:
Tape Does Not Cut Off Evenly
.
•
Ensure that the cut-off knife is clean. C
AUTION: The knife is very sharp
. Apply a little silicon or
oil to the blade to avoid adhesive build up on the sharp points.
•
Ensure that the unrolling tension is smooth and not too stiff because a ‘snap back’ caused by
excessively stretched tape can cause a jagged cut-off and tape pieces to stick to blade.
•
Be sure that the knife is adjusted to a high enough position to contact the tape fully during cutting.
•
Inspect the cut-off blade for wear or damage. The blades must be very sharp to work well. The
points are easily damaged if contacted by any hard material.
•
Ensure that the spring that provides power to the cut-off arm is tensioned correctly and is providing
enough power to cut through the tape.
•
Ensure that the tape head is positioned correctly for the case being sealed. If the top tape head is set
too high, the cut-off knife will not be fully activated, resulting in poor cut-off. Also, ensure that the
cases are fully down between the conveyor belts to provide proper contact with the cut-off knife.
Problem
:
Tape Tail Does Not Stick Down Properly
.
•
Ensure that the tape tension is even and smooth. Tape tension “snap back” will cause the tape tail to
recoil and not stick well to the back of the case.
•
Ensure that the wipe-down roller is actively pushing the tape down and that the spring is in good
condition and set at the right tension.
Problem
:
Tape is Off Center of the Case.
•
Ensure that the tape roll is fully pushed onto the spool.
•
Ensure that the tape head is seated in the bracket and not inclined sideways.
•
Check for obstructions pushing the tape off center.
