Strengthening of the trailing edge

The trailing edge of the wing covers must now be hardened and reinforced for flap

and aileron mounting forces. Look under the edges and see if any curls can be seen. If

any significant distortion is observed, secure the edge to something rigid and straight.

Make top and bottom edges separately for easy alignment. apply 3 layers of pre-soaked

BID tape in the areas where the hinges will be mounted to the aileron and 6 layers in the

flap hinge areas (3 places in the bottom shell for the flap hinges, 2 places in the top shell

for the aileron hinges). Flatten the trailing edges and trim approximately 1/16 in the areas

where the hinges will be attached.

Cut out 2 sections of laminated panel 10 long by 3 wide and center on hinge

locations. Outline the center of the rear spar to position the edge of the gussets. Lane these

reinforcements with 3-ply BID tape overlaying the top cladding and secondary spar.

Finish as needed after the reinforcements cure.
