the wire positioned as desired. It’s a good idea to apply a small drop of glue to the
strands, and tighten the second “jam” nut in place.
Make sure enough of the center wire is exposed from the Bowden housing to ensure
full guide fit. and anchor the bowden housing to the lower surface of the elevator, at the
lower flange on the front edge of the elevator. Drill through this flange and use a #8 bolt
with a loose nut plate up into the recess (The nut plate does not need to be riveted in, the
lifter flange will prevent it from turning. Use a cable clamp that grips the box firmly and
prevents it from slipping back and forth. If epoxy or other adhesive is used to secure this
assembly, the bowden box must be sealed with tape to prevent leakage by locking the
center wire. Work the elevator up and down through complete journeys and ensure no
binding whatsoever for free movement, and of course all potential conflicts.
Fabricate a control lever as per the drawing below, from a remaining piece of 1/16
inch aluminum foil or equivalent material purchased locally. The smaller the hole should
be the closer to the pivot hole as it will provide space for the bolt and washer sets
(approximately 3/4 in.) The top hole for the handle should be at least twice this value to
reduce the sensitivity of this setting. Mock up the lever assembly and locate the
appropriate point on the inner surface of the tunnel wall approximately opposite the flap
hold pivot point. Simulate operation from this pivot point, and ensure that none of the
components of this assembly will interfere with the control connections. Although loads
are light on this control, it is likely to be desirable to prepare a “hard point” location for
the passenger-side tunnel-side axle bolt at the desired pivot position. Cut the outer skin
of the sandwich material, and either insert a phenolic disc or fill the cavity with dry
MICRO/FLOX. Apply a pre-wetted BID 2 ply patch with at least a half-inch overlap
beyond the edges of the cut out. Drill a 3-16 pivot hole through the “hard spot” at the
selected location after resin cures.
