9.6 - Final closing - Bonding

Page 153

After curing, cut the front edge flush with the molded part and cut this corner back

1/16 inch into the 9 inch each hinge location.

Test the fit of the hinge location to the rudder hinge line on the fuselage and drill

the mounting holes for both sides of both hinges, coordinating both parts. Use temporary

screws and check that the rudder movement is unobstructed.

Clean and roughen recessed surfaces at the top of the rudder. Check continuity from

top of vertical stabilizer to rudder. If satisfactory, secure placement and laminate top of

rudder with 2 layers of 2-inch BID tape. Allow healing.

Take a block of styron foam sculpt the leading edge of the rudder counterweight

and finish the curvature of the rudder. REMEMBER TO CHECK IF IT STILL HAS THE

FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT DESIGNATED FOR IT.

Cut a piece of the laminated panel provided and make a rib for closing the vertical

stabilizer in the rudder counterbalance area. With the block, also make a finish to close

the vertical stabilizer. These drawings follow a radius from the hinge line. They can be

better visualized in the photos below.
