area washer inside the shell surface, and a self-locking nut on the outside of the fairing.
An area washer here would support structural ad d but probably not needed. Excess rod
trim for a sheer looking job with minimal air resistance. Supported on both sides in this
way, the fairing should almost be secure enough to hold up.
FAIRING WHEEL MOUNTING SKETCH
NOSE GEAR
The nose gear fairing is equally important, and presents a slightly different
challenge. This type of gear must be free to rotate to allow for steering on the ground, and
the interface with the gear leg fairing is an extra place of concern during installation.
The gear wheel fairing nose comes as a two-piece assembly divided roughly in the
middle of the section length. The middle position, with the positive overlap (right side),
locates the desired positioning of the wheel axle and the orientation of the fairing at
ground level. Try to keep the wheel fairing as far back as possible to minimize
aerodynamic load side effects. Also, note the location of the gear leg rotating action to
ensure proper wheel direction without interfering with the gear leg fairing (it would be
wise to test whether you fit this fairing at the same time).
