manual, so that a standardized layout must be used to ensure the safe operation of the

. Position of the dashboard is a bit of a personal preference, making sure the
clearance is just right for the knees, and enough space is provided behind the dashboard
for instrument installation and maintenance. Panel binding in position with pre-wetted 2
layer BID tape.
Another approach that has been used with some success in prototypes is to have a
screw in the panel. This is achieved by covering the normal bonding areas on the inner
surface of the exterior: the ears with clear adhesive tape, and laminating in what will
become a form fitting mounting flange. The pre-lam of about four sheets of the BID is
suggested using a pattern similar to the one used for the engine mounting pads (see
sketch). After the parts are separated and cleaned use a minimum of 2 #10-32 screws on
each end to secure the panel..
The upper area is left open at this point, and delaying windshield installation will
allow better access for installing instrumentation and wiring. The center of the panel will
be excessively flexible, so some form of hardening must be provided for panel support
for the firewall. The exact form of this hardening will be dictated by the radio and other
equipment installed. Aluminum angles for the ”tray” radio is a good approach.
After the instruments and wiring have been installed, it is suggested that a panel,
flexible light, made of cardboard or fiberglass is covered with non-reflective upholstery
material, and maintained with Velcro for the “dash” cover and dust cover of the
instrument ( or learn more about the optional factory cover). This panel should be sturdy
enough to set an occasional small book or manual, yet lightweight and easily removed for
maintenance.
