Install the PostScript Compatibility Upgrade if you want to
send print jobs as PostScript files. Windows computers send
print jobs as PostScript files if they are using the Windows
PostScript printer driver. Macintosh computers always send
their print jobs as PostScript files.
Installing the kit involves gaining access to the printer
Controller Board and installing both a single PostScript
SIMM and an 8MB SIMM. The upgrade kit contains both
SIMMs.
To install the PostScript SIMM:
1. Remove the Side Cover and access the Controller Board
as described on page 65.
2. Position the printer so you have access to the printer
Controller Board.
3. Figure
(A)
shows the Controller Board and the location of
the expansion slot used for printer memory.
4. Align the SIMM over the lower slot so that the notch is at
the bottom and insert at a 45 degree angle
(B) .
5. Rotate the SIMM upward until it snaps into position (C) .
6. Make sure that the SIMM is secured in place by the metal
clips and pins on both sides of the connectors
(D) .
7. Install the 8MB SIMM. See page 66.
8. Replace the Side Cover as described on page 68.
9. If not done previously, perform the following tasks:
•
For computers running Windows, install a Windows
PostScript printer driver as described in Chapter 3,
“Installing the Software.”
• For Macintosh computers, configure your Macintosh
as described in Chapter 3, “Installing the Software.”
10. Confirm the installation by printing a Configuration
Sheet. From the Ready state, press and hold the Go/
Continue
button for 4 seconds.
