Version 4.20 handles Manual Control menu selected spindle force differently than
previous versions.
This is the sequence of events starting at a point when not in the Manual Control mode
(status display not showing "Manual Mode", spindle is up, force entry is "0"):
1) Choose "down" for the "Spindle Up/Down" choice.
The spindle will move down using the "move down" calibration value appropriate
for the machine configuration and location of the bridge. The closed loop force
algorithm will not be used yet.
2) When a non-zero value is entered into the "Spindle Down Force" choice, the force
algorithm will then be used.
3) If zero is subsequently entered into the "down force" choice, the force algorithm
will continue to be used.
Therefore, a "0" force entry is ignored until the spindles are first lowered and a non-zero
force entered. The force algorithm will then be used for the remainder of that Manual
Mode session. This ensures that the only effect on the spindle when first lowered will be
due to the "move down" force. This prevents a spindle up/down oscillation that could
otherwise occur if the "pressure minimum" calibration value is too low (spindle would
lower, force algorithm would start, spindle would raise due to low "pressure minimum",
spindle would lower, etc.) The spindle should now reliably lower without chance of
oscillation when first requested.
However, if the "pressure minimum" is too low, an oscillation can still be seen, but it
would not occur until after first lowering a spindle and entering some non-zero force.
DCX Servo Controller Board Error Message (for technicians):
Version 4.20 adds an emergency warning message that will show if a DCX servo
controller board's command buffer does not become clear in a timely manner.
This is not a regular alarm and only shows on the screen. (This is similar to the
emergency axis move error messages.)
The message will show which board(s) is at fault. This message usually means a
catastrophic problem has occurred such as a failed board, cut ribbon cable, or software
failure on the controller board itself.
