GENERAL DIAGNOSIS 3-2-7

RADIAL TYRE LEAD

Dragging is the deviation of the vehicle when is driven straight on
a levelled road, without any force on the steering wheel.
Dragging is usually caused by:
1. Incorrect Alignment.
2. Unequal brakes Adjustment.
3. Tyre build up.
The incorrect build up of the tyre can lead to dragging of the
vehicle. An example could be the placement of the belt.
Uncentered belts on radial tyres can produce lateral forces while
driving straight. If one side of the tyre has a diameter slightly
greater than another, the tyre has a tendency to pull sideward.
This produces a lateral force which might induce dragging of the
vehicle. The following procedure is used to check the front
alignment precision in what concerns tyres dragging.
1) A part of the diagnostic procedure differs of the rotating

patterns generally indicated on the mechanics and driver hand
books. If tyre exchange from front to back is done with tyres
having middle to high mileage, ensure that running anomalies
do not arise

2) The back tyres will not cause dragging.
