ENGINE REPAIR 6A-47

CRANKSHAFT OIL-SEALS SUBSTITUTION

CAUTION:

The front and rear crankshaft oil-seals have a cover or

oil-seal support and an oil-seal of "ROTOSTAT" type.

These oil-seals have an assembling guide or wedge

which should not be taken away till the oil-seal is
properly placed on the crankshaft.

Crankshaft rear oil-seal substitution

Remove

1) Remove flywheel (see 6A-39 or 6A-42).
2) Remove screws (3) and withdraw the cover-oil-seal assembly (4).

Installation

1) In the points indicated by the arrows on the drawing, cut

away the overhanging of sealant gasket, which could be
present.

2) Lubricate oil-seal closing area at the crankshaft rear end (1).
3) Install new cover-oil-seal unit (4), fix it using screws tightened

to the specified tightening torque and withdraw the wedge (2).

Tightening torque for screws (3) from rear cover-oil-seal:
2,5 Kg-m (25 Nm)

4) Continue installation reversing the removal procedures and

applying the tightening torque specified in the complementary
tasks.

Crankshaft front oil-seal substitution

Removal

1) Remove timing belt (see 6A-28).
2) Remove screws (8) and withdraw assembly cover-oil-seal (6).

Installation

1) In Points indicated in the drawing with arrows cut any

protrudes of sealant material which might be seen.

2) Lubricate the closing area of cover-seal in extreme front-end

(5) of crankshaft.

3) Install new assemby cover-oil-seal (6), fixing its screws

tightened to specified tightening torque and withdraw guiding
wedge (7).

Tightening torque for screws (8) of front cover-oil-seal
ensemble:
0,75 Kg-m (7,5 Nm)

4) Continue installation reversing removal procedures and

applying the tightening torque specified in the complementary
tasks.
