6B-2 COOLING SYSTEM

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

General description

The refrigeration system of engine is of forced circulation type and is constituted by the following elements:

• A reservoir tank whose cap incorporates two valves, one for emptying or flushing and another one for filling.
• A radiator to dissipate heat that the cooling takes from the engine.
• A thermometric switch fitted in the base of radiator getting on and off an electromagnetic fan.
• An electromagnetic fan switching on when the temperature of coolant is 94°C ± 2°C and switching off at 80°C ±2 °C.
• A heat exchanger to cool oil of engine.
• A centrifugal type water pump moved by the generator driving belt. In its axle incorporates the coupling bushing of the

cooling fan.

• A three way thermostat regulating the flow of the refrigerating liquid.

Running

With a temperature of coolant below 79°C ± 2°C, the water pump moves around the coolant from the engine and the
heating system refrigerating the cylinders block and cylinder head (thermostat closed).

With a normal temperature of coolant (thermostat open), the thermostat coolant heated by engine to radiator. In this
situation, the water pump moves all of system coolant.

The pressure of circuit, due to the changes of temperature, is regulated by the valves (outlet and inlet) of reservoir tank.

The outlet valve provides two functions:

• To keep the system slightly pressurized in such a way the boiling point of coolant.
• Discharge outside the excess pressure produced when the coolant reaches too a high temperature.

The inlet valve allows the transfer of coolant from reservoir tank to the radiator when, within the system, there is a vacuum
because decrease of coolant volume doesn´t coolant temperature..
