• Install bearing caps (26) with bearings, lubricate the screws
with oil ref. 790964 and tighten them in two steps to the
specified tightening torque.
Tightening torque for screws at connecting rods covers:
• 1
st step; with torque wrench:
5 Kg-m (50 Nm)
• 2
nd
step; angular tightening:
63°± 2°

• Remove caps (26) and check width of the calibrated wire
gauge (27) at its widest point. For this, use engraved scale
in envelope (29).
• The obtained measurement must correspond with the
specified value; otherwise, substitute bearings in question
and repeat again the measurements from the beginning.
Main bearing clearance:
0,035 ÷ 0,083 mm
15) Once the measurement has been carried out satisfactorily
clean remains of the wire gauge, replace caps screws by new

ones, lubricate connecting rods bearings, lubricate screws
threads with oil ref. 790964, install caps and tighten screws to
specified tightening torque.
CAUTION:
The screws from caps will have to be always new
when doing final installation.
NOTE:
Measure clearance between bearings and main
journals in the four journals.
16) Control using your hands that the connecting rods move
axially in journals after final installation.
Pistons overhanging control and calculation of the
cylinder head gasket thickness .
17) Once finished the installation of the piston and connecting
rod assemblies, check pistons overhanging (30) with respect
to the upper part of the cylinders block.
To do this, use straighedge (E) and thickness gauge (F).
Depending on the maximum overhanging chose the adequate
cylinder head gasket as specified in the table.
