Setting the Waste Tank
This tank is used to collect water that generates as a result of defrost cycle.
Put the hose into the tank port and set it in the Polar® instrument storage space. Make sure the tank is
empty.
The hose has breather holes, so be careful not to obstruct these holes.
Discard collected water once a week or before it reaches the yellow line indicated by the label attached to
the tank. When discarding collected water, mix alcohol or formalin to prevent infection. Follow the applicable
regulation and guideline specified by the country or region to ensure safety.
Wear goggles, rubber gloves and other protective gears when handling liquid waste.
If the tank was cleaned with alcohol, thoroughly dry the alcohol. If any setting is made when the chamber
and/or waste tank is still wet with alcohol, the instrument may detect an error or malfunction.
Cleaning the Waste Tank
Discard collected liquid waste from defrost cycle once a week and disinfect/clean the tank by referring to the
information provided below.
Sodium hypochlorite: Soak the tank for at least 1 hour in a disinfectant solution prepared by diluting 5 to 6%
sodium hypochlorite solution (concentrate) by 50 to 60 times. After the soak, thoroughly rinse the tank
under running water and dry it before setting in the instrument.
Glutaraldehyde: Soak the tank for at least 1 hour in 2% glutaraldehyde. After the soak, thoroughly rinse the
tank under running water and dry it before setting in the instrument.
Wear a mask, gloves, goggles and other protective gears when handling a disinfectant such as
glutaraldehyde. Thoroughly rinse the inside of the waste tank with water after disinfected and dry it. If a
disinfectant such as glutaraldehyde remains, it may cause health hazard or instrument malfunction
Notes on Filling Disinfectant Solution in the Waste Tank Beforehand
You may fill the tank with disinfectant solution beforehand if there will be infectious waste water generated.
However, take note of the following items:
• If aldehyde-based disinfectant is used, aldehyde vapor may volatilize in the chamber. Accordingly, wear a
mask, goggles and other protective gears when working with aldehyde-based disinfectant.
• If disinfectant alcohol or isopropanol is used, the sensitivity of the instrument's ozone sensor may drop
during ozone cycle and ozone cycle may take a longer time to complete. Also, exercise caution because
such solution is high volatile and thus the chamber gets frosted easily.
• Hypochloric acid, orthophthalaldehyde, peracetic acid, povidone iodine and other reagents that are
corrosive to metals/plastics cannot be used.
If the tank was cleaned with alcohol, thoroughly dry the alcohol. If any setting is made when the chamber
and/or waste tank is still wet with alcohol, the instrument may detect an error or malfunction.
