WARNING
•
When disinfecting the instrument or chamber, do so in a well-ventilated place wearing
protective gears. Also use the specified disinfectant/cleaning reagent.
Using any other reagent may cause the instrument to corrode, fail, etc. For details, refer to Chapter 3,
"Maintenance/Inspection."
•
After use, clean/disinfect the instrument as soon as possible.
Debris and unwanted trimmings, etc., accumulate in the chamber during sectioning. These sectioned craps
are potentially infectious, so clean/disinfect the chamber as soon as possible.
If alcohol, acetone or other highly volatile reagent was used for cleaning/disinfection, dry the chamber
thoroughly. Otherwise, the instrument may fail or the interior walls and/or components such as the
evaporator in the chamber may corrode.
•
Replace the vacuum filter set regularly.
The pre-filter and bacterial filter (vacuum filter set) are consumables. Replace them every 3 months
depending on the condition of the institution.
•
Clean the waste tank regularly.
The Polar® instrument automatically defrosts itself once a day. Liquid generating in the chamber as a result
of defrost cycle collects in the waste tank, and since this liquid waste is potentially infectious, drain and
clean the waste tank regularly. Drain the waste tank in a well-ventilated place and wear protective gears.
If alcohol, acetone or other highly volatile reagent was used for cleaning/disinfection, dry the chamber
thoroughly. Otherwise, the instrument may fail or the interior walls and/or components such as the
evaporator in the chamber may corrode.
•
Wear a mask, gloves, goggles and other protective gears while working or cleaning.
The Polar® instrument has a blade and glass edges to demonstrate its characteristics. Since these parts
may cause injury or infection, be sure to wear gloves and other protective gears while working (sectioning,
changing the disposable blade, cleaning, etc.).
•
Do not perform the ozone disinfection cycle in a high altitude place.
If the ozone cycle is performed at a high altitude place of 2000 m or above, the ozone cycle may not be
implemented properly and infection may occur during work. Be sure to install the instrument in a location
meeting the installation conditions.
•
Keep the chamber, blade holder and specimen head (specimen holder) against
attachment of contaminants at all times.
If contaminants are attached to the blade holder or specimen head (specimen holder), tissues may not be
sectioned to an appropriate thickness or irregular thickness or tissue sample contamination may occur. Also
keep the chamber from attachment of contaminants at all time, because if sectioned craps accumulate in
the chamber, liquid waste may not be drained properly during defrost cycle.
•
Make sure the Anti-Roll Rake does not come in direct contact with the tissue sample.
The Anti-Roll Rake leaves edge marks on the tissue sample. So that proper specimens can be prepared,
make sure no tissue sample is present in areas that may come in contact with the Anti-Roll Rake.
•
Handle the Anti-Roll Plate made of glass with care.
If the Anti-Roll Plate falls sharply, its front end may get contact with a disposable blade and broken. This
may lead to scatter of glass fragment and cause injury. The broken Anti-Roll Plate may also interfere with
production of good sections or cause damage to blocks.
