‘‘T’’ INSTRUMENT PANEL
MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. ‘‘T’’ Instrument Panel
The T-shaped instrument panels have all
standard flight, navigation and engine
instruments installed in their faces, except the
canopy-located outside air temperature gauge
and the duct-mounted magnetic compass.
Caution and warning lights are supported by
the panel hood, along with the engine out
warning horn.
Electrical control switches, circuit breakers,
key switch, etc. are not covered in this section
(Ref. Sec. 96-30-00 for information).
Instrument panel design provides for install
ing optional UHF/VHF communications
equipment, navigation aid equipment,
instruments, and controls for optional equip
ment installed at other locations on the
helicopter. (Ref. Table 202, Sec. 01-00-00 for a
list of options).
The instrument panel is riveted to the upper
support column. The instrument panel/upper
support column assembly is removable from
the lower instrument panel support structure.
A. Fairings (L/H Command T
−
Panels)
Instrument panel fairings consist of left, right,
back and cover assemblies of pre-impregnated
polyester glass fiber, fastened by clips, Velcro
hooks, and Velcro pile. Removal of side trim
panel assemblies provides access to electrical
and indicating system components, shutoff
valve controls, and any optional equipment
panel.
B. Hood
The instrument panel hood in some helicopters
is a formed polyester glass fiber assembly; in
others it is a formed thermoplastic assembly.
The hood shades the top of the instrument
panel, supports caution and warning indicator
lights, and provides attachment for an audible
warning horn.
C. ‘‘T’’ Instrument Panel General
Maintenance
Maintain the instrument panel and supporting
structure according to Section 20-20-00
(Cleaning), Section 20-40-00 (Corrosion
Control) and Section 20-30-00 (Paint Finish),
and Fuselage Sheet Metal Repair paragraphs
in the Structural Repair Manual.
2. ‘‘T’’ Instrument Panel Replacement
A. ‘‘T’’ Instrument Panel Removal
The instrument panel/upper support column
assembly, along with installed instruments
and most internal electric wiring, is removable
as a unit.
Main electrical power sup
ply wiring must be discon
nected for removal of instrument panel
assembly. External power and battery
power must remain disconnected until
instrument panel reinstallation is com
plete.
(1). Set BAT/EXT PWR switch to OFF.
(2). Make sure external power is not
connected at external power connector
J100.
(3). In battery compartment, disconnect
P108 from battery (Ref. Sec. 96-00-00);
cap and stow.
(4). Disconnect wire P505C(3-10) from
battery relay K310 pin A1.
(5). Disconnect P110-J and P9-J from
fuselage wire harness (Ref. Sec.
96-00-00).
(6). Disconnect thermocouple leads from
terminal board and TOT indicator.
(7). Disconnect engine torque gauge and
engine oil pressure gauge. Disconnect
pitot and static pressure lines from
altimeter and airspeed indicator.
(8). Disconnect wire end of ventilating valve
control cable (Ref. Sec. 21-00-00).
