Adhesive / Primer / Catalyst
(1). Provide protective covering of canopy
and panel to prevent unnecessary
contact while cleaning.
(2). Carefully remove remnants of old
grommet from panel.
(3). Thoroughly remove any paint, grease,
oil, grit and moisture with a suitable
solvent (CM221 or CM234).
(4). Finish preparation of hole area by
abrading with aluminum wool or very
fine to ultra-fine abrasive fabric or pad
such as aluminum oxide, 150 or finer;
or garnet, 7/0 or finer.
(5). Thoroughly wash abraded surfaces
again with clean solvent and allow to
dry.
(6). Mix 2.5% by weight of catalyst (CM407)
with adhesive; mix 11 drops of catalyst
per each 10 grams of adhesive. Thor
oughly mix the two ingredients by
stirring.
(7). Brush-coat abraded area with primer
and allow 30 minutes drying time
before proceeding.
(8). After primer has dried, apply uniform
coat of catalyzed adhesive with brush
and allow to dry until tacky (approxi
mately 30 minutes).
(9). Install clean, dry, grease-free grommet
and press out air bubbles. Use only
light pressure; do not displace adhesive.
(10). Allow adhesive to cure 30 minutes
more.
NOTE:
Hydrogen is evolved from the catalyst
adhesive; a container of such material must
be vented to avoid pressure buildup. The
catalyzed material has a maximum pot life
of 8 hours.
(11). Allow adhesive to fully cure for 24
hours. Maximum bond strength is
obtained in about 72 hours.

Adhesive, silicone rubber
An alternate adhesive for canopy panel
grommet replacement is Silastic 140 (CM408),
which is a one-part adhesive ready to use as
supplied.
(1). Prepare hole area as described above
(Ref. Canopy Panel Grommet Replace
ment Procedure Using A-4000 Adhe
sive).
(2). Spread uniform layer of adhesive
(CM408) 10 to 30 mils thick on panel
around hole.
(3). Install clean, dry, grease-free grommet
and lightly press out air bubbles. Use
only light pressure; do not displace
adhesive.
(4). Allow adhesive to fully cure for 24
hours. Maximum bond strength is
obtained in about 72 hours.
7. Circuit Breaker Switch Replacement
Helicopters with R/H command T-Panel have
the PITOT HEAT circuit breaker switch
(CB129) mounted on the edgelighted switch
panel, located in front of the pilot's collective
stick. All other helicopters have the circuit
breaker switch (CB120), or accommodation for
it, on the instrument panel.
