Spring scale, short body, 0-25 lbs.
Two nylon tubes used as engine
oil pressure gauge and engine
torque gauge lines are connected to firewall
fittings. If not properly swaged, the tubes
can pull out of the fittings, causing loss of
engine oil which in turn may result in dam
age to the engine and surrounding compo
nents.
NOTE:
D
The following procedure shall be accom
plished any time the 369A8010 oil lines
and related firewall fittings are removed
and reinstalled or replaced.
D
This procedure shall also be performed
any time there are indications of oil leaks
around the 369A8010 oil tubing at the
firewall fittings.
(1). Release and prop open filter bypass
door or plenum chamber access door.
Use care to prevent entry of for
eign objects (FOD) into engine
air inlet. Install cover over engine air inlet.
Do not remove cover until work is completed
and any debris or other materials are thor
oughly cleaned out of the area. After remov
ing the cover, verify that area around base
of mast, inlet plenum and entire plenum
chamber is free from foreign material.
(2). Perform pull test for tube assembly as
follows:
(a). Wrap duct tape (CM730) around
tube, approximately one inch (2.54
cm) in front of bulkhead fittings.
NOTE:
Before performing the following step, it
may be necessary to practice tying the roll
ing hitch, as shown, using one hand. The
rolling hitch is used to attach the twine to
the tube assemblies while performing the
pull tests.
(b). Tie a small loop in one end of a two to
three foot (60 to 90 cm) length of
twine (CM807). Tie opposite end of
twine around tube, using a rolling
hitch; slide rolling hitch down tube
until it rests on duct tape; tighten
hitch, as shown.
(c). Attach hook of spring scale to loop in
free end of twine. Apply 15 - 20 lbs.
(7 - 9 Kg) straight pull, using twine,
on tube for approximately 15 sec
onds. If tube pulls partially or
completely out of fitting, replace
fitting.
(d). Remove scale and twine from tube
assembly.
(3). Remove FOD cover installed over
engine air inlet. Verify that area
around base of mast, inlet plenum and
entire plenum chamber is free of debris
and other foreign materials.
(4). Start and operate helicopter at ground
idle for two minutes minimum (Ref.
applicable PFM, Table 201, Sec.
01-00-00).
(5). Shut down helicopter. After rotor blades
have stopped turning, check oil pres
sure gauge and torque gauge tubing at
the firewall fittings for any indications
of leakage. Replace fitting(s) if any
leakage is noted.
(6). Close filter bypass door and plenum
chamber access door.
(7). Record this test in the Compliance
Record Section of the helicopter Log
Book.
