Discharge battery before at
tempting disassembly. If bat
tery has not been discharged, serious
injury to personnel and/ or damage to
battery may occur.
(1). Removing Bus Bars:
(a). Remove attaching hardware securing
bus bar.
NOTE:
See Figure 201 and note location of bus
bar with temperature sensing switches. If
switches need to be removed, perform Tem
perature Sensing Switches Replacement.
(b). Lift bus bar from cell.
(c). Clean bus bar with MEK (CM219).
(2). Removing Cells:
NOTE:
Two battery bus bars and cord may be
used to fabricate a puller. Attach cord to
hole at one end of each bus bar. Initial re

(d). Attach cell puller to cell terminals
and secure.
(e). Lift cell from battery case.
NOTE:
Note polarity of removed cell to prevent
reinserting cell in reverse polarity.
(3). Removing Receptacle:
(a). Loosen and remove two receptacle
bus strips from adjacent cells;
disconnect wires from battery
temperature sensing switches.
(b). Remove bus bar that connects cells
No. 1 and No. 2.
(c). Remove cell holddown bar from same
side of battery as connector separa
tor.
(d). Remove nylon separator and cell No.
1.
(e). Remove connector separator.
(f). Remove receptacle with attached
receptacle bus strips from case.
(g). Remove sealant and unsolder and
remove two receptacle bus strips and
temperature sensing switch wires
from back of receptacle.
(4). Replacing Battery Case:
(a). Disassemble battery per Battery
Repair steps (1). thru (3).
(b). Using stiff nylon brush and 3-per
cent boric acid solution, wash re
