Operation

4.1

Introduction

This section of the technical manual presents the detailed, technical description of the
operation of the cabinets in the transmitter. This section is organized by transmitter
cabinet. The sub-assemblies in each cabinet will be detailed here.

4.2

Control Cabinet

The Control Cabinet can control up to 5 PA cabinets (actual transmitter model numbers
and basic transmitter block diagrams are contained in Section 1, Introduction).

The Control Cabinet contains the Main Controller with the customer input/output panel,
life support, the exciter, the RF driver and a cabinet splitter (for multiple PA Cabinet
transmitters only). A dual exciter option with a second driver module is available. A
Graphical User Interface (GUI) touch screen is used to receive input commands from
the operator and gives status of the transmitter. Serial communication can also be used
for input/output. The Main Controller communicates with the Cabinet Controller (in
each PA Cabinet) and the Module Controller board (in each PA module) through a
Controller Area Network (CAN) bus and the parallel ON/OFF command.

4.2.1

Dual AC Main Feeds

To enhance on-air reliability, the control cabinet can be powered from two separate 120
VAC main feeds. This feature allows AC power feeds from two independent sources. If
one AC power feed fails, the second AC feed will continue to keep the control cabinet
powered. Each exciter/driver and control power supply are powered from separate AC
main circuits. If separate AC mains are not used, the two AC main connectors are
simply jumpered together.
