4.8.3

Driver Pallet

The RF Module Driver Pallet provides for further gain of the RF signal. It delivers
about 20 watts average of the 8 VSB signal to the input of a 6-way power splitter. The
Driver Pallet’s structure is similar to the PA pallet and contains two push-pull amplifiers
that are being fed from or through a 90 degree power splitter on the pallet. The push-
pull amplifiers on the pallet operate in class AB, biased for best linearity. Their output is
combined by a two-way 90 degree combiner at the pallet output.

4.8.4

RF Splitter

The pallet RF splitter follows the PA Driver Pallet stage in the RF path and distributes
the signal to the six pallet inputs. It uses a 2-stage corporate structure for broadband
performance. The first stage splits the input signal into two by using a Wilkinson 1/4
wave length microstrip divider. The second stage uses two 3-way structures, one on
each of the first stage outputs.

4.8.5

RF Pallet

The PA Module contains 6 parallel PA Pallets, in addition to the one Driver Pallet
mentioned above. Each pallet utilizes two push-pull class AB RF amplifier circuits fed
by a 90 degree splitter on each pallet. The output of the push-pull pairs is combined by
a two-way 90 degree combiner at the pallet output.

4.8.6

PA Pallet Combiner

The 6-way Pallet Combiner delivers the RF power from the outputs of the PA Pallets to
the PA Module output. It is a 2 stage corporate structure using Gysel Hybrid ring
combining techniques.
