Section 1 Introduction

PA Cabinet(s)
The PA Cabinet can operate as a stand alone unit. The only required external input to
the cabinet control system is an interlock closure. ON/OFF operation at the PA cabinet
can be done via push buttons on the Cabinet Controller board. The Cabinet Controller is
microprocessor based with a discrete logic back up (life support) like the Control
Cabinet but on a smaller scale.
Under normal conditions the Cabinet Controller receives commands both serially and
via parallel bus from the Control Cabinet. In addition there is a local RS-485 bus
between the PA modules and the PA Cabinet Controller in each PA Cabinet.
Each Power Amplifier cabinet contains:
•
Up to 16 hot pluggable PA modules (configurable for 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 modules)
•
RF splitter to drive the PA Modules
•
1 modular regulated power supply for every two PA modules
•
1 cabinet controller
•
1 cabinet cooling fan (optional external cooling fan version also offered)
•
Dual DC Low Voltage power supplies (diode or’ed for redundancy)
•
Module RF combiner, which includes RF circulators at the output of each PA module
and circulator reject loads.
•
RF Detectors for cabinet forward and reflected power and for each PA module reject
load.
•
AC Phase loss monitor
A rear door permits access to the combiner and other components. Intake air enters
through either the rear door (internal cooling fan), or the cabinet top (external cooling
fan option requires a special rear door). Exhaust air exits from the top of the cabinet.
AC main and control wiring enters the cabinet either at the top or bottom of the cabinet.
The product architecture allows configurations with up to 5 power combined PA
cabinets.
Each RF PA module is a micro controlled, self contained unit which protects itself from
damaging fault conditions as well as reporting its status and operating parameters.
A serial port on the Cabinet Controller and the provided In-System Programming or ISP
software, allows the GUI or an external computer to update both the cabinet controller
software and the PA module software in the field without having to change firmware
chips. Information on the ISP software and the procedures to use it are given in the
separate "Diamond Software Manual", part #888-2470-001.
