remaining on the air with the Life Support Board providing transmitter control. The
procedure for Hot-Swap of the Main Controller Board is contained is Section 5,
Maintenance.
6.1.4
Life Support Controller
If the Life Support board failed, control would be from the Main Controller only, which
is the normal control.
If the Life Support Controller and the Main Controller fail, the transmitter will shut
OFF. However, PA Cabinet ON/OFF operation is still possible via the individual
Cabinet Controllers. If a Control Cabinet failure were to occur (such as AC loss), both
Life Support and Main Controller would not operate. The PA cabinet would only need
RF from the Exciter and Driver which would have to be manually turned ON from
inside the Driver. PA cabinet ON/OFF could be controlled on the Cabinet controller in
each PA Cabinet. Protection is at the Cabinet level only (see warning below).
!
WARNING:
IF THE TRANSMITTER IS OPERATED WHEN BOTH THE LIFE SUPPORT AND MAIN
CONTROLLERS ARE NOT WORKING, THERE IS NO SYSTEM LEVEL VSWR PRO-
TECTION AND IS THEREFORE NOT RECOMMENDED EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCY
OPERATION.
6.1.5
GUI Troubleshooting
The GUI is a Windows based computer with a touch screen for a navigation interface.
The first line of defense against problems related to operating or navigating in the GUI
is to simply re-boot the computer. The proper way to do this is the standard Windows
Shut Down or Restart procedure.
If the pointer on the touch screen is not operating, then a keyboard can be attached and
CTRL-ALT-DEL will usually work. If all else fails you will have to shut off the power
switch to the GUI in the back of the Control Cabinet. Allow at least 10 seconds before
re-applying power.
If there is a problem with the pointer on the GUI screen and navigation is difficult, a
keyboard or a mouse can be plugged into the rear of the GUI to move around on the
screen.
The GUI is designed to not affect transmitter operation if it fails. Basic ON/OFF control
is via the front Panel and the Parallel Remote Control. Basic monitoring via the Parallel
Remote Control is still functional. The GUI program will run on a standard PC or laptop
